Landscaping Tips: Four Ways to Make Your Property Beautiful
Dan Levenson May 18, 2020
Whether at home or at work, it is important to have great landscaping. Yet, beautiful landscaping does not happen on its own. It takes effort and planning. If you need help creating great landscaping, consider these four tips.
Keep It Colorful Throughout the Year
To keep your landscaping beautiful throughout the year, it is important to include flowers, shrubs, and other plants that will grow during different times of the year. You don’t want everything blooming at the same time and then dying at the same time. If you don’t already know, research when your favorite flowers bloom, and look for other plants that bloom during different times of the year. For example, the Eastern Columbine generally grows in April and May while Madagascar Periwinkle grows from June until the frost. You can include Allegheny Serviceberry in your landscaping for even earlier color since they bloom in March and April.
It is also important to add variety when it comes to the size of your plants. Include small flowers as well as larger shrubs or trees to really increase the appeal of your landscaping. By adding a variety of plants, which grow at different times of the year, you can ensure that your landscaping will look beautiful no matter the season.
Don’t Go Overboard
While it is important to have variety in your landscaping, it is also important to not go overboard. When in doubt about how much you should include in your landscaping, go with less rather than more. Your first year, you might just want to plant a few flowers that will grow each reason and a few trees. You can always add more next year or even later this year. It is especially important to not go overboard with trees or large bushes. Make sure that you leave enough space between trees and large bushes for the plants to adequately grow.
Don’t Forget the Non-Plant Elements
While people often consider the plant aspect of landscaping, it is important to know that landscaping is about more than just the trees and flowers that you include in your yard. Structures, such as statues and fountains as well as features, such as a pond or fencing around your flower bed, are also important elements of your landscaping needs.
One important part of your landscaping needs is lighting. When used efficiently, outdoor lighting can be used to provide security around your home. It can be placed on your home, on structures in your yard, and even along the ground to light an otherwise dark path at night. Lighting is also great for highlighting specific landscaping elements. For example, it can be used in a flower bed to show off your beautiful blooming roses, or it can be put next to your fountain to highlight it.
Use an Expert
If you are unsure about anything concerning your landscaping, it’s a good idea to contact an expert. A landscaper can help you achieve the right balance for your yard. This includes helping you find plants that will last as well as those that will help your yard look beautiful. A landscaping expert can also help you understand the best place to put specific plants. For example, some trees are great for providing shade. When planted closer to your house, they can help you save on your energy costs. An expert can also help you with other elements of your landscaping, such as creating a beautiful fountain in your backyard or offering tips on where to add lighting. Once the job is completed, your landscaper can offer tips for maintaining your landscaping, and if needed, can continue to take care of your future landscaping upkeep.
